RRI.CO.ID, Batam - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Robert Joppy Kardinal, assessed that the speed of service provided by the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) is a crucial factor in maintaining the smooth flow of exports and imports in Indonesia. Therefore, he highlighted the need to strengthen facilities, modernize equipment, and increase human resource capacity to ensure more effective quarantine services without compromising strict supervision.

Robert made the statement after the House's Commission IV -- dealing with agriculture, forestry, environment, and marine affairs -- visited the Batu Ampar Port Cross-Border Post, Batam, Riau Islands, on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The visit was conducted to directly observe the implementation of quarantine supervision and identify various operational challenges in the field.

According to Robert, a Southwest Papua legislator, fast quarantine services are urgently needed. That is because they are directly related to the smooth distribution of export and import goods, supporting national economic activity.

"Of course, the Quarantine (Agency) must provide fast service. Because it's all (about) exporting and importing (affairs)," Robert said.

"We need both (export and import) to keep the economy running smoothly. Of course, we must also enforce the regulations," he continued.

However, Robert cautioned that expedited service delivery should not compromise the thoroughness of the inspection process. He stated that careful oversight is necessary to ensure that Indonesian commodities meet the requirements of the destination country and avoid rejection in the international market.

He added that Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is ready to provide support through policies and budgeting. This is to support facilities and improve the competency of Barantin's human capital.

"So, it's important to improve services, equipment, and human resources in the future. Yes, we definitely support this. This is all for the sake of the business economy. Otherwise, the entire economy will be disrupted," Robert, of the Golkar Party, asserted.
