RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry is intensifying efforts to develop the national jewelry industry, recognizing it as one of the manufacturing subsectors with high added value and a significant contribution to Indonesia’s export performance. These efforts are being carried out through various programs, including industry development, capacity building, technological transformation, and market expansion initiatives involving stakeholders across the jewelry industry ecosystem.
One of the ministry’s strategic initiatives is its support for the Bandung Jewellery Fair (BJF) 2026, held from June 11–14, 2026. Now in its second year, the exhibition serves as a platform for jewelry businesses to showcase flagship products, expand business networks, introduce the latest innovations, and strengthen the position of Indonesia’s jewelry industry in the global market.
Indonesia's Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, stated that the jewelry industry possesses unique characteristics, combining creativity, craftsmanship, culture, and technology to produce high-value products.
“The jewelry industry is one of Indonesia’s leading sectors with high added value and an important contribution to manufacturing exports. Beyond generating foreign exchange earnings, it also helps preserve culturally significant products and creates employment opportunities across various regions,” Agus said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026.
The performance of Indonesia’s jewelry industry continues to show a positive trend. Between January and December 2025, exports of jewelry and precious goods reached USD 9.1 billion, representing a 64.73 percent increase compared to USD 5.5 billion in 2024.
According to the minister, this achievement demonstrates that Indonesian jewelry products are gaining stronger acceptance and competitiveness in international markets. Therefore, continuous improvements in product quality, design innovation, business sustainability, and the industry’s ability to respond to global market trends remain essential.
“This export growth proves that Indonesia’s jewelry industry has tremendous potential. We must maintain this momentum by strengthening an industrial ecosystem that continuously drives innovation, productivity, and competitiveness,” he said.
However, Agus acknowledged that the industry still faces challenges, including global economic uncertainty, fluctuations in raw material prices, shifting consumer preferences, and the growing demand for digital transformation. Strong collaboration among the government, industry associations, and businesses is therefore needed to ensure sustainable growth and adaptability.
Meanwhile, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), Reni Yanita, emphasized that digital transformation and the implementation of Industry 4.0 are key factors in strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesia’s jewelry sector.
At the opening of BJF 2026, Reni noted that technology adoption can improve operational efficiency, accelerate innovation, and enable the production of higher-quality products that better meet market demands.
“Digital transformation and Industry 4.0 implementation allow jewelry manufacturers to operate more efficiently, produce more precise products, and respond to consumer needs more quickly and accurately,” she said.
As part of its industrial transformation efforts, the Ministry of Industry has conducted assessments using the Indonesia Industry 4.0 Readiness Index (INDI 4.0) across several companies in the miscellaneous manufacturing sector, including precious metals and jewelry businesses. The results indicate a strong level of maturity in digital technology adoption, including management system digitalization, artificial intelligence utilization, cybersecurity implementation, smart customized products, and the integration of intelligent technologies into production processes.
“These results demonstrate that the precious metals and jewelry industry can successfully integrate modern technology with human creativity and skills to produce innovative, high-value products. We hope more industry players will undertake similar transformations to improve efficiency, quality, and competitiveness,” Reni said.
Director of Miscellaneous Industries, Reny Meilany, added that BJF 2026 showcases a wide range of jewelry products and supporting industries, including gold, silver, pearl, diamond, and natural stone jewelry, as well as various high-value crafts.
She explained that exhibitions play a vital role in strengthening the national jewelry industry ecosystem by providing opportunities for businesses to showcase products, build partnerships, understand the latest market trends, and create broader opportunities for transactions and investment.
“Exhibitions such as the Bandung Jewellery Fair serve as strategic platforms for promotion, collaboration, and business development. They not only connect producers and buyers but also create a space for ideas, innovation, and partnerships that can further strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s jewelry industry,” Reny said.
