RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, reaffirmed the government's commitment to building a knowledge ecosystem that strengthens the preservation of Indonesia's cultural heritage by enhancing the role of libraries. The commitment was marked by the inauguration of the Ministry of Culture's Ranggawarsita Library in Jakarta on Monday, July 20, 2026.

The launch of the library forms part of the Ministry's broader effort to establish a modern documentation center while expanding public access to cultural publications. Through the digitalization of its collections, the government aims to ensure that Indonesia's cultural knowledge can be more widely accessed and utilized by the public.

He said that libraries should no longer serve merely as repositories for books, but they also become as centers for documentation, dissemination, and the development of cultural knowledge. He noted that all publications produced by the Ministry of Culture will be compiled as part of the historical documentation of Indonesia's cultural development.

"All of our publications will be housed in the Ranggawarsita Library, ensuring that every publication produced by the Ministry of Culture from the past to the present is physically available here," Fadli Zon said.

He added that publications that have not yet been digitized will gradually undergo digitalization to enrich the Ministry's digital archive. Currently, the Ministry of Culture has more than 5,500 digital works, and the collection will continue to grow through its ongoing digitization program.

"Publications that have not yet been digitized will be converted into digital formats, adding to our existing collection of more than 5,500 digital works. We hope this will ensure that the books we publish are not wasted, but remain accessible to the public as living sources of knowledge that can be widely utilized," he said.

Minister Fadli Zon further said digitalization is a strategic step toward expanding public access to Indonesia's cultural works and publications. In addition to preserving cultural archives, the initiative will enable research findings and intellectual works to serve as accessible learning resources for future generations.

Through the Ranggawarsita Library, the Ministry of Culture hopes to provide more open and inclusive public services in the fields of knowledge and culture while strengthening cultural literacy nationwide. The government also envisions the library as a sustainable knowledge hub that supports the long-term preservation of Indonesia's cultural heritage.
