RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Administration is pursuing strategic cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Administration in the creative economy and film sectors to help local young talent enter global markets.

The potential collaboration was explored through the 2026 Indonesia Festival at Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul, South Korea, on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, as an initial step toward exchanging experience in developing culture-based creative industries.

“Jakarta and Seoul have considerable room to grow together," Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno said in an official statement on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

"Their relationship must be filled with concrete cooperation, covering culture, creative industries, filmmaking, young talent development, and the exchange of experience in building cities capable of making their mark on the global stage,” he added.

He said Jakarta and Seoul were exploring various opportunities for cooperation, including the exchange of experience in developing cities through culture, creativity and innovation.

On the occasion, Rano highlighted how culture had been developed consistently in South Korea, enabling it to reach people around the world.

He said Korean films, music, dramas, cuisine and fashion demonstrated that culture was not merely a heritage to be preserved. These cultural products had developed into economic forces as well as effective instruments of diplomacy.

“We have seen how South Korea has successfully taken its culture beyond national borders. What is interesting for us to learn is not merely the end result, but also the strategy behind it, how culture is given space, creators are strengthened, industries are developed, and everything is then introduced to the world,” Rano noted.

He added that Jakarta possessed cultural assets no less significant than those of other global cities. As a meeting point for various ethnic groups, traditions and cultures for generations, this diversity had become a strong part of Jakarta’s identity as a global city.

Therefore, he continued, developing Jakarta as a global city did not have to mean abandoning its cultural roots. Instead, the city’s cultural wealth could serve as both a source of inspiration and a strength for introducing Jakarta to the world.

The 2026 Indonesia Festival served as a platform for bringing Indonesian and South Korean communities together while strengthening cultural diplomacy.

“The Indonesia Festival is more than a cultural celebration. It is a space for interaction. Through art, cuisine, creativity and culture, the people of Indonesia and South Korea can get to know one another better, exchange inspiration and build a stronger friendship,” Rano concluded. ***
