RRI.CO.ID, Palangka Raya - Turning discarded timber into an international commodity, a local cottage industry in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, is demonstrating how environmental resourcefulness can carve out a lucrative niche on the global stage.
Operating out of the industrial center on Jalan Temanggung Tilung, UD Akselerasi has spent the last 13 years refining its craft. By converting wood waste into export-grade items, the enterprise has successfully captured the attention of overseas consumers in demanding markets such as South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.
Discussing the rigorous standards required to maintain a foothold abroad, industry manager Ruth Sri emphasized the ongoing dedication to product excellence.
"So far, we continue to try to improve the quality of production in accordance with the wishes of buyers from Korea, Taiwan and Japan. And until now our loyal buyer is Japan. We export semi-finished chopsticks and finish them in Japan for souvenirs," Ruth said on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as quoted by Infopublik.id.
This steadfast operational consistency has previously earned national acclaim. Ruth's long-standing leadership in driving local productivity led to her selection as a representative of Central Kalimantan for the Paramakarya Award It is the highest national productivity accolade conferred by the Indonesian government on small, medium, or large enterprises that successfully elevate and sustain output over three consecutive years, presented during the administration of former President Joko Widodo.
Beyond its international footprint, the enterprise functions as a vital pillar for grassroots economic development. Over its 13-year trajectory, the business has directly impacted the surrounding community by providing stable livelihoods for 15 local workers. "We are very grateful to be able to employ the local community. They can work here and help improve their family's economy," Ruth added. ***
