NTB Prepares Alternative Cultural Destinations After Sade Village Fire

RRI.CO.ID, Central Lombok - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Administration is actively preparing alternative cultural tourism destinations across Lombok to absorb expected visitor overflow following a catastrophic fire at the Sade Traditional Village (Dusun Adat Sade) on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
With the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP scheduled for October 9–11, 2026, event organizer InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) targets 145,000 international and domestic spectators, a 15.7 percent increase over the previous year. Because the 16th-century Sade settlement, a major cultural draw for race attendees, saw its traditional houses destroyed, the NTB Cultural Agency is readying alternative heritage sites to receive tourists.
Designated sites include the Ende Traditional Village, Bayan Traditional Village, Sukarara Weaving Village, and Pringgasela Traditional Village. Concurrently, provincial authorities are working alongside Sasak tribal elders to map out a culturally respectful revitalization plan for Sade.
Head of the NTB Cultural Office Muhamad Ihwan outlined the provincial strategy to prepare alternative cultural corridors. He noted that diversifying cultural itineraries protects Lombok’s tourism economy while ensuring Sade's historic reconstruction aligns with indigenous traditions.
"Preparing alternative cultural destinations is critical to accommodate the anticipated influx of international and domestic tourists arriving for the Mandalika MotoGP, we will rapidly coordinate with managers and local art communities at Ende, Bayan, Sukarara, and Pringgasela to ensure operational readiness," he said in Central Lombok on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Deputy Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Indah Damayanti Putri emphasized that rebuilding Sade requires careful consultation with customary leaders.
"Revitalizing Sade Village requires all parties to sit down together and gather guidance from local tribal elders, any reconstruction effort must strictly respect and preserve the architectural character, values, and living heritage of the Sasak community," Indah added. ***
