RRI.CO.ID, Singkawang - Chinese investors are targeting Singkawang City to become West Kalimantan’s primary center for agricultural research and technology, driven by a planned investment from the Science and Technology Alliance of China Agricultural University to construct multiple specialized research laboratories.

The initiative aims to build specialized facilities for animal protein, food technology, palm oil-based renewable energy, and value-added crop processing to support regional commodity downstreaming. Representative Mr. Jay confirmed that all laboratory construction is targeted for completion by May 20, 2027.

The project also encompasses water resource management, including water quality testing labs, clean water mapping, and advanced wastewater treatment technology.

Additionally, Shanghai Extra Machinery representative Yang proposed an integrated digital livestock system utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) Netfarm technology for poultry, livestock, and aquaculture production to strengthen regional food security.

Municipal executive leaders and international investment delegates affirmed that integrating advanced agricultural research with digital farming technologies will accelerate regional industrial downstreaming. Singkawang Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie welcomed the investment plan, confirming full administrative support for the project.

"We are ready to assist in providing all necessary data and facilitating the licensing process so that the construction of these laboratories can be realized quickly, the presence of research laboratories will deliver long-term benefits for the development of agriculture, livestock, and processing industries," Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie said in Singkawang on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The Mayor also said that this investment will create jobs, increase the value-added of local commodities, and boost regional economic growth.

Representative from the Science and Technology Alliance of China Agricultural University, Mr. Jay, outlined the scope of the infrastructure and environmental research.

"All laboratory construction is targeted for completion by May 20, 2027, at the latest, beyond agricultural research labs, we will build water quality testing facilities, map clean water sources across Singkawang, and introduce wastewater treatment technology to support sustainable production," Mr. Jay explained. ***
