RRI.CO.ID, Singkawang – The Indonesian Minister of Housing and Urban Settlements (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, has set a target of 4,000 subsidized housing units for Singkawang, West Kalimantan in 2026. This policy was reaffirmed during a collaborative forum on housing finance and grassroots economic empowerment in Singkawang, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Minister Maruarar remarked that the additional quota is intended to expand access to decent housing for Low-Income Households (MBR). He also ensured that licensing governance remains robust, specifically to prevent encroachment on productive agricultural land.

“Paddy fields must not be converted into housing, we must maintain food security while ensuring the development of public housing continues. If the Mayor asks for 3,000 houses, I will provide 4,000 to further ignite that spirit,” the Minister noted in a written statement on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

In addition to subsidized housing, the PKP Ministry has prepared 496 units under the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) scheme for home renovations in Singkawang. This program is part of an initiative to rehabilitate uninhabitable dwellings for the local community.

Director General of Urban Settlements at the PKP Ministry, Fitrah Nur, highlighted a significant increase in the BSPS allocation compared to the previous year. “In 2025, there were 25 houses receiving BSPS in Singkawang. This year, that number has risen to 496 units for renovation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister, Tito Karnavian, emphasized that the success of regional leaders can be measured by the reduction in poverty rates. According to him, such reductions are achievable through integrated housing programs and economic empowerment.

He further expressed the central government’s support for the various financing breakthroughs spearheaded by the PKP Ministry. This support is channeled through fiscal policies and the streamlining of regional licensing.

“We at the Home Affairs Ministry provide support by waiving fees for the Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB) and Building Approval (PBG), as well as zeroing out Income Tax (PPh) and interests on People’s Business Credit (KUR). This ecosystem is projected to drive national economic growth by up to 2 percent,” concluded Minister Tito. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
