RRI.CO.ID, Kebumen - The Regional Shrimp Farming Center in Kebumen Regency, Central Java, has reportedly exported shrimp to the United States. Indonesia's parliament hopes the facility will continue to grow as a national asset.

Member of the House of Representatives (DPR), Darori Wonodipuro, attended a harvest event at the site on Saturday, July 11, 2026. He said the facility has the potential to support the country's food self-sufficiency program while also generating economic benefits for surrounding communities.

According to Darori, the shrimp farming center has demonstrated high productivity, with harvests that not only meet domestic demand but have also reached export markets. He added that the facility has had a positive impact on local communities by creating jobs for residents of nearby villages.

"What's even more encouraging is that the people working here are members of the local community," he said, as quoted on the DPR's official website.

Darori, of the President Prabowo Subianto-led Gerindra Party, explained that the development of the Kebumen Regional Shrimp Farming Center had received support from the House from the outset. He acknowledged that there had initially been doubts about the project. However, after Commission IV conducted an on-site inspection, the facility was deemed viable, allowing development to proceed.

According to him, the success of the Kebumen shrimp farming center demonstrates that modern shrimp aquaculture can boost production while supporting local economic growth. He expressed hope that the facility would continue to be maintained and developed as a state asset with strategic importance for Indonesia's fisheries sector.

"If there are any shortcomings, we should communicate and discuss them—whether with the local government, the provincial government, or the central government. After all, this is a national asset that must be safeguarded," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, another member of the House, Titiek Soeharto of the same party, said the shrimp harvests from the farming center have demonstrated excellent productivity. She noted that production can reach around 40 metric tons per hectare, with an established market already in place to absorb the harvest.

"The results are extraordinary. One hectare can produce 40 tons, and there are already buyers ready to take the harvest. The shrimp are fresh and of excellent quality. Hopefully, there will be no issues with exports," she said.

Titiek, daughter of former President Soeharto, said the shrimp farming model could be replicated across Indonesia. She said expanding such programs could increase local incomes while also helping improve nutritional outcomes.

"I think if we have more of these across Indonesia—if every province has at least one shrimp farming area like this—it will certainly increase the income of local communities and also help improve the nutrition of children living in the surrounding areas," she said.
