RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Ministry has reported a massive production spike at its Area-Based Shrimp Budidaya Modeling (BUBK) in Kebumen, Central Java. Production figures for 2025 reached a record 358.97 tons, nearly doubling the previous year's output of 193.29 tons.

As reported by Antara, this surge comes as the facility enters its seventh cultivation cycle in February 2026. This milestone marks a successful administrative transition that has further optimized the site's operational capacity.

The Directorate General of Aquaculture, Tb Haeru Rahayu, recently shifted management of the 65-hectare facility to the Jepara Brackish Water Aquaculture Center (BBPBAP) to ensure regional efficiency. This move follows the expansion of other national projects, allowing for more focused supervision in Kebumen.

"The management transition went smoothly and did not halt production activities. In fact, current pond operations are being continuously strengthened to become more optimal," remarked Haeru in a briefing on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Beyond the volume of harvest, the quality of the shrimp remains a primary focus under the ministry’s "Blue Economy" framework. The facility strictly adheres to Good Fish Cultivation Practices (CBIB), ensuring that all vaname shrimp produced are entirely free from antibiotic residues.

"With the implementation of CBIB standards, we are optimistic that production and productivity at BUBK Kebumen will continue to increase over time until it reaches optimal production," added Haeru.

He noted that the site's 16 active clusters serve as a national model for balancing ecology with economic gain.

The impact of this production boom is being felt directly by the local community. The facility has integrated 142 permanent local workers and over 100 daily laborers into its operations, while also revitalizing the local economy through increased demand for catering, lodging, and retail services.

Financially, the project has become a significant revenue stream for the region. Contributions to Kebumen’s Local Original Income (PAD) jumped from IDR 259 million (USD 16,380) in 2024 to IDR 489 million (USD 30,927) in 2025.

Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, previously emphasized that this modeling is a cornerstone of the KKP’s vision. He noted that the project aims to create an aquaculture system that is socially inclusive, economically profitable, and environmentally responsible. ***
