KBRN, Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto hosted a gathering and panel discussion with rectors and leaders of public and private universities at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (13/3/2025). The meeting focused on the critical role of universities in driving national progress through research, innovation, and the enhancement of human resources (HR) quality.

Following the session, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, shared that the President emphasized Indonesia's vast potential to become a developed nation. However, he stressed that mastery of science and technology is the key factor in achieving this vision.

"The President also stated that only nations that master science and technology will become prosperous nations," said Minister Brian.

Brian also conveyed that President Prabowo views universities as having a strategic role in fostering research- and innovation-based industries. The Head of State further highlighted the importance of academic integrity and the need to cultivate an anti-corruption culture among future generations.

"It was also conveyed that Indonesia’s bright future must be supported by the development of science and technology while ensuring strong integrity. The anti-corruption culture must continue to be instilled in the future generations of Indonesia," Brian added.

In addition, Brian shared the President’s optimism about Danantara’s potential to drive strategic industries in Indonesia. Universities, he emphasized, are crucial as they serve as the backbone of research and innovation.

"In this regard, universities will play a key role as the backbone of research, innovation, and the preparation of human resources to support industrial programs that will rapidly advance in the future," Brian continued.

President Prabowo also urged universities to produce high-quality products to achieve national self-sufficiency in various sectors, including food security and mineral downstreaming. He called on rectors and deans to continually enhance the quality of teaching, research, and technological development.

"The President urged us to give our best—to produce the best human resources from universities and conduct groundbreaking research to develop technological products for Indonesia’s vast market, boosting the nation’s economy and industries," Brian explained.

The panel discussion, according to Brian, was highly productive, providing rectors with a platform to share their perspectives. The Minister expressed hope that this meeting would strengthen collaboration between the government and universities to build an advanced Indonesia through research, innovation, and highly skilled human resources.

"We sincerely appreciate and thank the President for inviting all rectors, both from public and private universities, so that we can align our perspectives. We are all eager to support the President’s programs," Brian concluded.
