KBRN, Jakarta: The Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, confirmed that the development of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara, remains on track and has even been ordered to accelerate by President Prabowo Subianto. This statement was made during the Gelar Griya Eid al-Fitr 1446 H gathering with President Prabowo at the Jakarta Palace on Monday March 31, 2025.
Basuki emphasized that the government’s commitment to Nusantara’s development remains unwavering. The primary focus is on expediting infrastructure projects and establishing essential ecosystems to support the capital’s functionality.
"Nusantara Capital City (IKN) will continue, and in fact, the President has instructed its acceleration. It has always been stated that my primary assignment there is to continue construction and prepare its ecosystem, including the judiciary—namely, the Constitutional Court (MK), the Supreme Court (MA), and the Judicial Commission,” he stated.
In addition to judicial institutions, the government is also prioritizing the development of legislative infrastructure, which includes the House of Representatives (DPR), the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), the Regional Representative Council (DPD), and their respective areas. Basuki further highlighted the need for rapid construction of roads and residential facilities to accommodate the relocation of government offices and personnel.
The relocation of Indonesia’s administrative center to IKN is set to proceed in phases. To ensure a smooth transition, the government is implementing strategic measures to develop supporting infrastructure. “We are also preparing steps to ensure that the relocation of the administrative center to IKN can proceed gradually and according to schedule,” Basuki added.
Among the critical aspects of the development plan is the construction of transportation systems, green energy infrastructure, and essential public facilities. These initiatives are expected to create a livable and sustainable environment in the new capital, aligning with Indonesia’s long-term vision for Nusantara.
The government’s commitment to green and smart city principles is also reflected in its planning. Efforts are being made to integrate environmentally friendly energy sources and modern public services, ensuring that Nusantara will be a model for sustainable urban development.
President Prabowo’s directive to accelerate development underscores the administration’s resolve to have the capital city fully operational by 2028. This ambition requires coordinated efforts among various sectors to meet the necessary infrastructure, governance, and residential needs in a timely manner.
As construction progresses, the government remains optimistic that IKN will serve as a modern and efficient administrative hub for Indonesia, fostering economic growth and regional development while embracing sustainability and innovation.
