KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia’s U17 national football team made history on Monday, November 10, by defeating Honduras 2-1 in their final Group H match at the FIFA U17 World Cup 2025 in Doha, Qatar, securing the country’s first-ever win in the tournament through goals from Arkhan Kaka and Muhammad Nabil Asyura.
According to FIFA’s official website, the victory marked Indonesia’s first-ever win in the U17 World Cup history. It is also the first win for any Indonesian national team at any World Cup final, either at the senior or youth level, Antara reported.
The win further distinguished Indonesia as the only ASEAN country to have won a match at the U17 World Cup. Other ASEAN participants, such as Thailand, which competed in 1997 and 1999, failed to secure any points in the tournament.
Indonesia has participated twice in the FIFA U17 World Cup, in 2023 and 2025. As hosts in 2023, the Garuda squad recorded two draws and one loss in Group A, earning a total of two points. Draws came against Ecuador (1-1) and Panama (1-1), while they lost to Morocco (1-3).
At the 2025 edition, Indonesia, placed in Group H, overcame Honduras 2-1 in their final match, following earlier defeats against Zambia (1-3) and Brazil (0-4).
During Indonesia’s participation in U17 World Cups, only five players have scored for the country, totaling six goals. Arkhan Kaka leads with two goals, while Muhammad Nabil Asyura, Muhamad Zahaby Gholy, Evandra Florasta, and Fadly Alberto each contributed one goal. Arkhan Kaka remains Indonesia’s top scorer at the U17 World Cup, a record set in 2023.
Despite the historic win, Indonesia failed to advance beyond the group stage in 2025, mirroring the outcome in 2023. The Garuda teenagers finished third in Group H with three points from three matches, but their goal difference was insufficient to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams advancing to the Round of 32. ***
