KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Military (TNI) has initiated a massive engineering campaign across Sumatra, with personnel currently erecting nine emergency bridges to restore crucial land access severed by recent floods and landslides.

Brigadier General TNI Osmar Silalahi, the Deputy Head of the TNI Information Center (Wakapuspen), revealed at a press conference at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, that four Bailey bridges are specifically under construction in the disaster-hit region of Aceh to reconnect the isolated routes.

"Then, for West Sumatra, there are four, in Sikabau, it is 63 percent [complete], and in Bawah Kubang, it is 58 percent. These are Bailey bridges," Osmar said, as quoted by Antara.

In addition, in North Sumatra, one bridge connecting the land route between Central Tapanuli and South Tapanuli (North Sumatra) is being built. "The one in North Sumatra is already 100 percent complete," said Osmar.

Osmar mentioned that the construction of these emergency bridges is being carried out by the Indonesian Army units from the Construction Engineers (Zeni Konstruksi).

The bridge construction program is also under the leadership of the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD), General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, who was appointed as the Commander of the Bridge Construction Task Force.

According to Osmar, his team will continue efforts to increase the construction of Bailey bridges at several damaged points along the land routes. With the construction of these bridges, he expressed his hope that the distribution of logistics to flood victims can be carried out optimally. ***
