RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - At just 15 years old, Indonesian lifter Delima Yunia Susanti has already etched her name into the history books, setting a world record in the rookie women’s 79kg category at the World Para Powerlifting Asia-Oceania Open Championship 2026 in Thailand.
Competing in her debut international event from April 7–12, Delima stunned the field by lifting 93 kilograms, a performance that earned her four gold medals across rookie open and rookie Asia categories in both best lift and total lift.
The achievement not only secured Indonesia’s place on the medal table but also signaled her emergence as one of the nation’s brightest prospects in para powerlifting.
“I am grateful to my coaches and seniors who have supported me. My hope is to keep improving, stay motivated in training, avoid complaining, and meet future targets,” Delima said in a statement released by NPC Indonesia on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Despite her success, Delima admitted to feeling nervous when facing more experienced competitors. “In my heart, I was very afraid of competing against seniors. But I am happy to have joined such a big event with kind opponents,” she reflected.
Her breakthrough comes as Indonesia delivered a solid overall performance in Bangkok, winning 25 medals -- six gold, four silver, and 15 bronze -- placing 10th in the final standings. Uzbekistan dominated the championship with 74 gold, 33 silver, and 18 bronze medals.
For Delima, the rookie triumph is only the beginning. She has set her sights on higher levels of competition, including the Asian Para Games and eventually the Paralympics. Determined to strengthen her skills and mental resilience, she sees her record-breaking lift as a foundation for greater achievements ahead. ***
