Despite Speed Limits, Passenger Numbers Rise on Cikarang Commuter Line

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Service on the Jakarta-Cikarang commuter line is gradually returning to normal. Passenger boarding and alighting services at Bekasi Timur Station have also resumed following the collision incident on Monday, April 27, 2026.
KAI Commuter’s VP of Corporate Secretary, Karina Amanda, stated that the track normalization process is ongoing and showing positive progress, as quoted from a written press release received on Sunday, May 3, 2026. However, Karina emphasized that speed restrictions remain in place for all train journeys at the incident site.
Karina reported that activity at the station is now beginning to return to its usual bustling state. This is evident from the steadily increasing number of passengers each day.
“Passenger volume at Bekasi Timur Station is also gradually returning to normal and has even continued to increase since the station resumed boarding and alighting services,” Karina said.
Furthermore, she also noted that according to KAI Commuter data, following a two-day trial period after the incident, passenger volume at Bekasi Timur Station reached 5,266 boarding passengers and 2,820 alighting passengers. Meanwhile, on day 3, a total of 8,188 passengers boarded and 9,268 disembarked at the station.
“Meanwhile, at the start of this long holiday weekend, passenger volume on Friday, May 1, 2026, had already reached 14,000. A total of 6,590 people boarded and 7,527 people disembarked,“ Karina added. ”On Saturday, May 2, 2026, a total of 8,412 passengers boarded and 9,275 disembarked at Bekasi Timur Station."
Travel delays have decreased following the evacuation process. On Thursday, April 30, 2026, the average departure delay was 25 minutes, and on Friday, May 1, 2026, it decreased to 15 minutes. On Saturday, May 2, 2026, the average departure delay further decreased to 9–10 minutes as track normalization efforts continued.
KAI Commuter once again apologizes for the incident and appreciates the patience of passengers during the recovery period. “KAI Commuter also urges passengers to prioritize safety by not forcing their way into already full trains, and to always give way to passengers exiting the train,” she said.
