RRI.CO.ID, Takengon – The rising popularity of "Whip Pink" on social media has sparked significant concern. While the product is officially marketed as a culinary tool for food preparation, it is increasingly being misused. Individuals are reportedly inhaling the contained gas to achieve a "high" or euphoric sensation.
Com. Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto, Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), has directly addressed the growing abuse of the product. In a video posted to his personal Instagram account, Suyudi emphasized that the issue lies not with the brand or the product itself, but with its misuse.
He warned that any substance can pose severe risks when utilized outside its intended purpose. "This isn't about one specific brand or product. Any substance can be dangerous if misused. Literacy begins with understanding boundaries," wrote Suyudi in a caption accompanying the video on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
According to information on the official Whip Pink website, the product is intended strictly for culinary use. It serves as an aid in creating whipped cream for various food and beverage applications.
A Whip Pink canister does not contain cream. Instead, it holds pressurized nitrous oxide gas, commonly known as "whippets", which acts as a propellant to dispense cream. This gas is not intended for direct consumption or inhalation.
However, a dangerous trend circulating on social media shows individuals intentionally inhaling the nitrous oxide as an inhalant to pursue a brief euphoric effect or "high," often compared to "poppers." This practice is considered high-risk and hazardous to health.
The BNN Head reiterated in his video that misusing Whip Pink has the potential to cause serious medical harm. Nitrous oxide should only be used according to its specifications and under proper supervision.
Inhaling the gas directly without medical control can lead to severe side effects, ranging from respiratory distress and dizziness to permanent nerve damage.
According to the BNN, the misuse of this gas falls into the category of inhalant abuse, which is often overlooked because the products are easily accessible. Repeated use can lead to addiction, cognitive decline, and complications within the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems.
The prevalence of social media content showcasing the improper use of Whip Pink is believed to be fueling curiosity, particularly among teenagers. The BNN Chief urged the public to be more discerning when consuming digital content and to avoid imitating risky behaviors seen online.
Furthermore, the BNN is calling on parents, educators, and the community to increase supervision and provide education on the dangers of inhalant abuse. Collective awareness is deemed crucial to prevent this dangerous trend from spreading and claiming victims among the younger generation. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
