KBRN, Jakarta: Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman, also known as Gus Miftah, has issued a clarification and an apology to the people of Indonesia. This apology came after a video of him allegedly mocking an iced tea vendor with inappropriate language went viral on social media.
According to the Instagram account @tangerangsekilasinfo, Gus Miftah said he had no intention of criticizing the iced tea seller. Gus Miftah admitted that his viral words were just a joke.
“Related to the viral video, I humbly apologize for my mistake. I do like to joke with anyone,” Gus Miftah said in today's clarification video.
He said he would apologize to the iced tea seller and hoped the iced tea seller would forgive him.
He also apologized to the public for the uproar caused by his jokes. “What people think may be excessive,” he said.
He added he would introspect himself over the viral video, especially when preaching or speaking in front of many people.
“I have also been advised by Cabinet Secretary (Major Teddy) to exercise caution when expressing opinions,” said Gus Miftah. ***
