RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Batam Raja Ali Haji Museum is an important public institution located in Batam, Riau Islands, dedicated to showcasing local history. Opened to the public in December 2020, the building itself was originally a main stage used for a National Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) event in 2014.

Named after Raja Ali Haji, a prominent figure in Malay literature and scholarship, the museum tells the story of Batam from past eras to modern times. Visitors can explore exhibits covering the Riau-Lingga Sultanate, the colonial period, and the rapid growth of the city.

Classified as a Type B general museum, it features around 79 registered collections that include traditional artifacts and historical photographs. The institution even uses modern technology, like interactive QR codes, to make learning fun and engaging for everyone.

Managed by the local government's culture and tourism department, the museum serves as a key educational center for students. Special programs help young people learn about local infrastructure, heritage, and the early pioneers of the region.

Its core mission is to collect, care for, and preserve historical items while encouraging research into local archaeology. By offering inclusive exhibits, the museum welcomes both domestic and international tourists to discover Batam's unique background.

Walking through the galleries allows people to see how a small trading area transformed into a bustling industrial city. Each display acts as a bridge connecting past struggles with today's thriving community.

This cultural landmark continues to play a vital role in boosting regional tourism and preserving national identity. It stands proudly as a safe space for future generations to explore their historical roots.
