RRI.CO.ID, Mataram - The Mount Rinjani National Park Center (TNGR) in West Nusa Tenggara has temporarily closed the Torean and Senaru hiking routes following forest fires that swept through the Bukit Setampol and Sangkareang Peak areas of Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island.

Head of Administration Sub-division at TNGR Center Astekita Ardiarsito confirmed in Mataram on Wednesday September 30, 202, both popular hiking routes remain closed until further notice while authorities handle the aftermath of the blaze.

"The Senaru hiking trail and Torean route remain temporarily closed until an undetermined time," Astekita said on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara.

Hikers holding valid electronic tickets for the Senaru entry point are advised to reschedule their trips or re-route through the Sembalun entry trail. Meanwhile, trekkers currently on the mountain who had selected Senaru or Torean as exit points are being redirected by park officers to descend via Sembalun.

The wildfires, which broke out on Tuesday, September 22, damaged surface vegetation across an estimated 1,098.75 hectares, affecting mountain casuarina trees, shrubs, grasslands, and dry leaf litter.

Drone surveillance conducted from a distance of 350 meters on Tuesday, September 29, confirmed that no new hotspots or expanding blazes have been detected. Remaining smoldering sites are isolated to previously burned standing trees with low risks of further spreading.

Despite the containment, field teams remain on high alert to prevent potential reignitions, strengthening surveillance through ground patrols and strict baggage inspections at active park entrances. ***
