Officially inaugurated on March 25, 2008, by Minister of Education Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo, the institution evolved from the private collection habits of Hj. Rahmawaty Sofyan Raz. Owned by the family of Drs. H. Sofyan Raz and managed by the Sofyan Raz Institute Foundation, the museum operates with high professional standards.

Classified as a Type B special museum, it emphasizes an interactive and enjoyable learning approach that combines history, culture, and creativity. Visitors of all ages can engage with tailored thematic exhibitions and educational narratives that make learning both relevant and fun.
