RRI.CO.ID, Jembrana - Medewi Point offers one of Bali’s longest left-hand waves along the island’s western coast. Located in Jembrana, the surf spot attracts surfers with its long rides and relaxed coastal setting.
The wave rolls along a palm-fringed coastline with black sand and a boulder-bottom point break. Its smooth shoulder and varied sections give surfers room to practice different maneuvers during sustained rides.
Medewi can peel for more than 300 meters when conditions align, creating one of Bali’s lengthy surfing experiences. The wave also works well for longboarding when the swell remains small or moderate.
Its waves generally run larger than those at Kuta but remain smaller than those at Balian. The relatively slow peeling speed and manageable takeoff also make Medewi suitable for surfers developing their skills.
Medewi works best with southern to southwestern swells and easterly to northeasterly winds. The wave breaks across different tides, although higher tides generally produce better wave shape.
Early morning sessions often provide cleaner conditions before trade winds become cross-onshore along the western coast. The break can produce waves from one foot to around one and a half times overhead.
Surfers can reach the lineup by crossing the rocks or paddling around the point during larger swells. At lower tides, exposed boulders and barnacles can create hazards and potentially cut surfers’ feet.
Medewi sits around a two-to-three-hour drive from Kuta, helping maintain a quieter atmosphere than southern Bali. Nearby beach breaks and river mouths also provide alternative locations for adventurous surfers.
The surrounding area offers a range of accommodations, restaurants, and surfboard rental services for visitors. Its long waves, rural atmosphere, and tranquil coastline make Medewi a distinctive surfing destination in Jembrana.
