RRI.CO.ID, Paser - Gunung Embun or Embun Mount captures the beauty of Paser's highlands through thick morning mist and sweeping natural scenery. Located in Luan Village, Muara Samu District, the destination is known as a “land above the clouds.”
Also known as Saing Boga, Gunung Embun has become one of East Kalimantan's popular nature destinations. Its growing recognition followed its nomination for the 2020 Anugerah Pesona Indonesia Award.
The destination is best experienced around dawn, when thick mist gathers around the mountain summit. The mist usually appears before 6 a.m. and gradually becomes thinner after 8 a.m.
Visitors can stay overnight or travel before dawn to catch the changing atmosphere at the summit. As morning light emerges, the mist creates a distinctive landscape across the surrounding highlands.
Gunung Embun can be reached through several routes from surrounding areas using motorcycles or four-wheel vehicles. Some routes feature rocky and unpaved sections, requiring visitors to prepare accordingly.
The destination has several facilities, including gazebos, parking areas, toilets, and a prayer room. Visitors can also find small business stalls, a guard post, photo spots, and camping areas.
At certain times, Gunung Embun hosts paragliding festivals featuring athletes from various Indonesian provinces and overseas. These activities add an adventurous element to the destination's highland tourism experience.
Gunung Embun brings together misty mountain scenery, outdoor activities, and community-based tourism facilities. Its “land above the clouds” atmosphere highlights the diverse natural tourism potential of East Kalimantan.
