RRI.CO.ID, Banyuwangi - Gintangan Village in Banyuwangi, East Java, showcased its bamboo craftsmanship through the annual Gintangan Bamboo Attraction. The event took place along the village roads on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, attracting local residents and visitors.

Known as a bamboo craft center, Gintangan Village presented various handmade products through a lively community-led carnival. Residents of different ages participated, displaying bamboo creations while highlighting the village’s long-standing craft tradition.

The parade featured bamboo household items, furniture, accessories, artistic installations, and decorative ornaments. Visitors could also purchase various bamboo products directly from craft shops located along the village roads.

Local bamboo craftswoman Holiah said residents looked forward to the annual carnival. She said the event provides an opportunity to proudly introduce their handmade bamboo products to wider audiences.

“Weaving bamboo is a routine activity for us five days a week, producing various household items. Some products are made into tenong baskets, bamboo sieves, and bamboo trays,” she said.

Holiah added that the products are regularly collected by trucks for distribution outside Banyuwangi. Some of the crafts are also shipped to Bali, she said.

Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, said Gintangan’s bamboo crafts represent local economic potential through downstream processing. She said the development could increase economic value, strengthen competitiveness, and create wider opportunities.

“Gintangan’s bamboo crafts are downstream products that hold the key to increasing the community’s economic value. This downstream development will strengthen competitiveness while opening wider economic opportunities,” Ipuk said.

She also praised residents for preserving bamboo craftsmanship while presenting it through a modern attraction. Gintangan Village Head, Hardiyono, said the event also encouraged young residents to take pride in their local potential.

The event was developed through collaboration among local designers, artists, and bamboo craftsmen. Gintangan’s bamboo products now reach local and national markets, as well as international destinations including Germany and the Maldives.
