RRI.CO.ID, Garut - Indonesia's Garut Regency is stepping up the development of Sanghyang Taraje Waterfall as a nature tourism destination. Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin visited the site in Pamulihan District, West Java, on Saturday, 1 August 2026.

The visit focused on assessing tourism potential and supporting infrastructure around the waterfall. The regency government also highlighted the role of tourism in boosting the local economy.

Syakur said tourism development should go hand in hand with environmental conservation. He added that Sanghyang Taraje is among West Java's most attractive natural destinations.

"It is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in West Java, perhaps even in Indonesia. We must preserve, protect, and develop it for the benefit of local communities," he said.

The Garut Regency Government plans to improve tourism facilities within its budget constraints. It also encourages collaboration with local communities to support long-term destination development.

The regency expects village participation in infrastructure funding and local revenue generation. The government said stronger community involvement would help accelerate tourism improvements.

The site manager of Sanghyang Taraje Waterfall, Deni Tamrin, said better road access remains the area's top priority. He requested improvements to the 2.5-kilometer access road and additional street lighting.

"We want to preserve the area's natural character. What we need most is better access roads to the destination," he said.

Deni said the waterfall already attracts domestic visitors every weekend and international tourists from countries including Australia and France. The destination is expected to become one of Indonesia's leading nature tourism attractions.
