RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - Indonesia's Bandung City inaugurated Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan as a new nature-based tourism destination. The site officially opened in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Located in the Bukit Mbah Garut area, the destination combines nature, culture, religious heritage, and local culinary experiences. The site is managed by the local Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis).

Bandung Mayor, Muhammad Farhan, said the destination demonstrates collaboration between the Indonesian local government and the community. He said environmental conservation remains the foundation of its tourism development.

"This is the community's work. Therefore, it is our responsibility to protect every tree and preserve this area. Trees keep Bandung cool, protect water sources, and attract visitors," he said.

Farhan said the destination also serves as an educational space promoting harmony between people and nature. He encouraged residents to make environmental conservation part of daily life.

"Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan is not only a tourist destination. It is also a learning space showing that humans are part of nature," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bandung Culture and Tourism Office, Adi Junjunan Mustafa, said the project strengthens community-based tourism through cooperation among stakeholders. He added that the destination supports sustainable economic opportunities for nearby residents.

Visitors can enjoy traditional Sundanese cuisine, cultural performances, a bamboo forest, and the Mbah Garut religious site. Around 20 local MSMEs also participate, by using wooden coins as traditional payment tokens.
