RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - The Indonesian Government is accelerating Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) as the international tourism gateway for the JOGLOSEMAR Corridor. The strategy was discussed in Yogyakarta on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The initiative was highlighted during the Strategic Tourism Coordination Meeting on the YIA Ecosystem Network. The meeting strengthened cross-sector collaboration to maximize YIA's tourism role.

General Manager of Yogyakarta International Airport Muhammad Thamrin said infrastructure is no longer the main challenge. He explained the airport currently uses only about 25 percent of its annual 20 million passenger capacity.

Special Region of Yogyakarta Regional Secretary Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti stressed stronger stakeholder coordination remains essential. She said a clear roadmap and defined responsibilities would accelerate implementation.

Ni Made urged every institution to commit to measurable actions supporting YIA's development. She emphasized the benefits extend beyond aviation to regional economic growth.

"If we want acceleration, everyone must clearly understand their responsibilities. Every contribution should be documented so each stakeholder has clear accountability. The roadmap must be finalized immediately and its progress continuously monitored because the impact extends beyond the airport to regional economic growth," she said.

The regional government targets completing the action framework within one week. Program implementation is scheduled to begin on October 15, 2026.

The strategy focuses on Australia, China, and India as priority international markets. It also integrates tourism destinations, air connectivity, and creative economy development across the JOGLOSEMAR Corridor.
