RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism is urging stronger regional collaboration, innovation, and industry alignment to bolster Southeast Asia’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) ecosystem.
Speaking at the pre-opening of the Southeast Asia Business Events Forum (Seabef) 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Main Expert Tourism and Creative Economy Policy Advisor Vinsensius Jemadu highlighted the forum's role in convening industry leaders and policymakers across ASEAN.
"Seabef began in 2023 as a simple idea enabling Southeast Asian nations to grow the events industry faster and more sustainably through cooperation," Vinsensius said, as quoted by Antara.
Held from July 28 to 29, 2026, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), this year’s forum carries the theme Beyond Business Events: Redefining the Future of Events as a Catalyst for Competitive, Sustainable, and High-Value Tourism Growth. The event runs alongside the Indonesia Business Events Mart (IBEM) 2026, scheduled from July 28 to 31, 2026, to expand dialogue and commercial partnerships across the regional MICE sector.
"We welcome stakeholders from various countries to engage in open discussions regarding industry directions, ranging from regional policy and best practices to human resource development and jointly hosting major events in Southeast Asia," Vinsensius added.
Central government officials emphasized that large-scale events remain a primary engine for driving tourism mobility and broader economic development. Vinsensius underscored the central government's commitment to prioritizing event-based tourism growth.
"The President pays great attention to event hosting. The government recognizes that events are a tool to attract public movement, and when people arrive, economic growth follows," Vinsensius explained.
He expressed confidence that the collaborative network built through Seabef and IBEM 2026 will position business events as strategic drivers for long-term regional competitiveness and sustainable economic value across Southeast Asia. ***
