RRI.CO.ID, Banyuwangi - Indonesia's Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, praised Banyuwangi as a model for regional tourism development. The statement was delivered during her working visit to Banyuwangi, East Java, on Saturday and Sunday, July 25–26, 2026.

The minister visited several tourism destinations, including Boom Marina Beach and Kemiren Tourism Village. She also attended a coordination meeting on the Ijen Geopark revalidation with local stakeholders.

She said Banyuwangi demonstrates how innovation and commitment can strengthen regional tourism development. She added the region's approach could be adopted by other destinations across Indonesia.

"Banyuwangi has become an example of successful regional tourism development in Indonesia. What Banyuwangi has achieved can be applied in many other regions across the country," Widiyanti said.

The minister also visited the Ijen Geopark Geological Information Center (PIGGI). She described it as the best geopark information center she had ever visited.

She continued her visit to Kemiren Tourism Village, home to the indigenous Osing community. She interacted with residents, sampled traditional snacks, and viewed local batik and woven handicrafts.

The Minister also met a French tourist staying in the village during the visit. The tourist praised the hospitality of local residents and the peaceful atmosphere of Kemiren.

Widiyanti said the ministry will provide special assistance for Kemiren Tourism Village after its recognition in the UN Tourism Best Tourism Villages Upgrade Programme 2025. She expressed hope the village would eventually achieve the Best Tourism Village designation.

Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, thanked the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism for supporting local tourism development. She said Banyuwangi continues to preserve its cultural identity while strengthening tourism as a driver of regional development.
