Indonesia Expects New Spring Airlines Routes from China to Boost Arrivals

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism is banking on two new direct Spring Airlines routes from China to revive and grow Chinese tourist arrivals. This comes after the carrier launched services from Guangzhou and Shenzhen to Jakarta last week.
As reported by Antara, the inaugural Guangzhou–Jakarta flight touched down on 16 June carrying 172 passengers, followed by the first Shenzhen–Jakarta service with 178 passengers. Spring Airlines will operate the Guangzhou route three times weekly and the Shenzhen route twice weekly.
Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said the new routes are concrete evidence of improved air connectivity and deeper tourism cooperation between Indonesia and China.
“This step is hoped to attract more Chinese tourists to visit Indonesia on a sustainable basis, so their interest in coming remains steady and continues to grow in the future,” she said in an official statement on Monday, 22 June 2026.
Ni Made also affirmed the ministry’s continued support for efforts to strengthen air links between the two countries as an important measure to boost the competitiveness of Indonesia’s tourism sector.
The route openings come as China remains a key source market for Indonesia. From January to April 2026, visits from Chinese tourists reached 491,726, a 25.6 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
In addition to Jakarta, several carriers from both countries already operate direct flights between China and Indonesian destinations such as Surabaya, Denpasar and Manado. ***
