RRI.CO.ID, Garut - Garut, West Java, is set to welcome a burst of color and international camaraderie as kite flyers from 13 countries prepare to take part in the upcoming Garut International Kite Festival.
The event, scheduled for July 29 to August 2, 2026, will unfold against the scenic backdrop of Mount Papandayan in Cisurupan Subdistrict. “Thirteen countries have registered as of Monday, June 15,” Head of Garut Tourism and Culture Agency, Beni Yoga Gunasantika, said on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Participants will include kite enthusiasts from Indonesia and abroad, with delegations from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, China, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Italy, and Belgium. Domestic teams will also join from Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, South Sumatra, and South Kalimantan.
Beni emphasized that Garut’s selection as the host venue offers a unique attraction for international kite flyers, as the festival is typically held in coastal areas. This year, the mountainous setting of Tepas Papandayan provides a fresh appeal.
To support the event, local authorities are preparing infrastructure improvements, particularly road access to the festival site. “We are waiting for the completion of road repairs,” Beni noted.
The five-day festival is expected to draw large numbers of visitors, boosting Garut’s tourism profile while showcasing the region’s cultural vibrancy in a spectacular highland setting. ***
