RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar - The Denpasar municipal administration in Bali is intensifying its efforts to position the coastal enclave of Sanur as a premier global destination for sport tourism, leveraging community-led athletic events to stimulate the local economy and attract high-spending international visitors.

The city's strategic vision was emphasized during the annual NCC (No Club Club) Motorun 2026 footrace, which drew hundreds of local and international runners to Sanur's scenic routes over the weekend. The event is seen by municipal leaders as a prime example of the kind of high-profile athletic gathering that can elevate the resort area's global profile.

"As an international tourist destination, the Sanur area in Denpasar is highly suited to host various local, national, and international events. Activities like this certainly provide added value to the development of the tourism industry while empowering local MSMEs," Denpasar Deputy Mayor I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa said during the race's official flag-off ceremony on Sunday, June 7, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Arya Wibawa noted that integrating sports with leisure travel creates a powerful multiplier effect for the seaside town, directly translating athletic competitions into increased hotel occupancies, vibrant restaurant traffic, and a healthy economic circulation that reaches grassroots merchants.

To capture this growing global market, the Denpasar administration has pledged sustained structural and promotional backing for sports initiatives that choose the island’s capital as their backdrop.

"Through organizing events like this, it is hoped that a positive impact can be delivered to the community's economy and support the growth of the tourism sector in Denpasar," Arya Wibawa added, reiterating the administration's long-term commitment to the sector.

The two-day event, which ran from June 6 to 7, 2026, showcased Sanur’s capacity to handle multifaceted sports gatherings. Organized by the No Club Club community, the festival kicked off on Saturday with a Children Sprint category designed to foster youth participation, followed by the main 5K and 10K road races on Sunday morning.

To maximize the economic footprint of the event, organizers transformed the venue into a community hub featuring corporate sponsor booths, community exhibitions, live entertainment, and dedicated marketplaces for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"The NCC community was established in 2019, and in organizing the NCC Motorun 2026, we collaborated with a number of sponsors to support the success of this activity," said event's organizing committee chairman, Agus Darmayuda.

Darmayuda expressed hope that the annual race would continue to serve as a vital promotional vehicle for Sanur and the wider Denpasar area, building a bridge between international athletic communities and local Balinese entrepreneurs. ***
