Indonesia Records 4.68 Million Foreign Tourist Arrivals in Early 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The total number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia from January to April 2026 reached 4.68 million visits. This figure represents an 8.24% increase compared to the same period in the previous year and stands as the highest cumulative achievement since 2020.

The Deputy for Statistical Methodology and Information at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Pudji Ismartini, said on Friday, June 5, 2026, that this positive trend underscores a robust recovery and strong growth within the Indonesian tourism sector. "The number of foreign tourist visits from January to April 2026 is the highest since 2020," she said.

BPS data reveals that the vast majority of foreign tourists entered Indonesia through aviation routes. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali served as the primary point of entry, registering approximately 2 million arrivals during the first four months of the year.

Alongside the spike in international visitors, BPS reported a positive shift in the performance of the national accommodation sector. The Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) for all hotels nationwide in April 2026 was recorded at 37.08 percent. This reflects a 3.80 percentage point increase compared to March 2026 and a 0.33 percentage point increase compared to April of last year.

For the star-rated hotel category specifically, the occupancy rate reached 48.83 percent in April 2026. Regionally, the occupancy rates within this category varied significantly. Regarding the highest occupancy areas, Bali registered the top occupancy rate at 57.94 percent, followed closely by DKI Jakarta at 54.80 percent and West Kalimantan at 53.76 percent.

Finally, in terms of the lowest occupancy areas, the lowest rates for star-rated hotels were recorded in Aceh at 24.35 percent, Central Papua at 29.58 percent, and Bangka Belitung at 30.39 percent.

Cumulatively from January to April 2026, the average occupancy rate for star-rated hotels hit 46.01%, climbing 2.07 percentage points compared to the same timeframe in 2025. The sharpest growth during this four-month period occurred in West Papua with an increase of 13.38 points, followed by West Kalimantan at 10.47 points and Maluku at 7.35 points.

For non-star hotels and alternative accommodations, the occupancy rate in April 2026 averaged 24.96 percent. Within this classification, DKI Jakarta recorded the highest occupancy at 38.09 percent, followed by the Riau Islands at 35.11 percent and Bali at 34.81 percent. Finally, the lowest performance was found in Highland Papua, which bottomed out at 9.62 percent.

On a cumulative basis from January to April 2026, non-star hotel occupancy reached 23.75 percent, marking a slight increase of 0.51 percentage points year-on-year. The regional dynamics within this category showed contrasting trends. First, regarding the highest increases, West Papua led the growth with an increase of 7.72 points, followed by Gorontalo at 6.38 points and North Sulawesi at 4.88 points.

Looking at the deepest declines on the other end of the spectrum, Bali suffered the sharpest drop, falling by 4.72 points, followed by DKI Jakarta with a 3.47-point decline and Banten with a 2.47-point decrease.
