RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia' Ministry of Tourism is promoting a more balanced distribution of sustainable tourism investment beyond Bali. It aims to unlock the economic potential of destinations across the archipelago and promote more inclusive growth.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Tourism on May 30, 2026, Tourism Minister, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, said Indonesia offers numerous tourism destinations with strong investment potential that can be developed responsibly and sustainably.
Speaking at the Investor Roundtable 2026 in Bali on Friday, May 29, the Ministe revealed that Indonesia recorded 15.39 million international tourist arrivals, with nearly 7 million visits concentrated in Bali.
“This figure reflects growing international confidence in Indonesia as both a tourism destination and an investment destination, while Bali remains the heart of the country's tourism growth,” she said.
However, the concentration of investment in popular areas such as Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu, and Ubud highlights the need to expand investment opportunities to other destinations so that the economic benefits of tourism can be distributed more evenly across the country.
“Indonesia is more than just Bali. We have many outstanding destinations with enormous tourism and investment potential that are still waiting to be developed responsibly and sustainably,” the minister said.
As part of this strategy, the government is prioritizing the development of 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and Regenerative Tourism Destinations as new growth centers expected to create jobs, expand investment opportunities, and improve community welfare in various regions.
The minister, therefore, invited investors to explore emerging opportunities in Indonesia’s leading destinations beyond Bali to help build a tourism industry that is more balanced, inclusive, and sustainable. During the forum, she also gathered input from investors, local governments, associations, and tourism businesses to strengthen the country’s tourism investment climate.
Widiyanti further announced plans to develop an Application Programming Interface (API)-based verification system to ensure that all accommodation providers marketed through digital platforms possess the required business permits.
