RRI.CO.ID, Malang - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) maintained smooth operations and orderly traffic management over the Eid al-Adha holiday, despite welcoming thousands of visitors just days before its scheduled closure for an indigenous ritual. A total of 6,195 tourists visited Mount Bromo during the holiday period from May 27 to 28, 2026, showing steady traffic without the severe congestion typically seen during other major holidays.
The Public Relations Officer for the TNBTS Center, Endrip Wahyutama, disclosed the official figures in Malang, East Java, on Friday, May 29, 2026. He noted that the tourist rush was spread across the two-day period, with 1,992 visitors arriving on Wednesday and 4,203 arriving on Thursday.
"The number of tourists coming to Bromo during Eid al-Adha 1447 H totaled 6,195 people, with details of 1,992 tourists recorded on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, and 4,203 tourists visiting on Thursday, May 28, 2026," said Endrip, as quoted by Antara.
Domestic travelers made up the vast majority of the holiday crowd, accounting for 5,799 of the total visitors. Within this segment, 1,804 people explored the volcanic landscape on Wednesday, while 3,995 arrived on Thursday.
International tourism also contributed to the holiday turnout, with 396 foreign nationals visiting the park. Endrip broke down the international arrivals by stating that there were 188 foreign visitors on Wednesday and 208 on Thursday.
This brief holiday surge serves as the final window for sightseeing before the national park implements a temporary shutdown.
The TNBTS Center will completely close the Mount Bromo area from May 30 to June 2, 2026, to respect the sacred Yadnya Kasada ceremony observed by the local Tenggerese community. Meanwhile, neighboring attractions also drew modest crowds over the holiday, with the Ranu Regulo area recording 662 visitors, all of whom were domestic tourists.
Park authorities reported that tourism flows remained entirely manageable compared to the chaotic peaks of Eid al-Fitr or New Year celebrations.
Officials monitoring the transit points found no major traffic gridlocks along the primary access routes. However, the park management did not lower its guard, ensuring that all security and surveillance protocols were strictly enforced to protect visitors.
"All monitoring of field conditions is carried out periodically so that tourism activities run in an orderly, safe, and comfortable manner," concluded Endrip. ***
