RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is organizing accommodation businesses in the country, such as hotels, guesthouses, and villas, to ensure they have business permits before appearing on online travel agency platforms. Unlicensed accommodations risk no longer appearing on various travel agency websites in the coming months.

The country's Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, said the government has collaborated with nine online travel agents to communicate and implement regulatory provisions for merchants. The government also develop a verification system integrated with data from the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, in cooperation with the agents.

"Through this system, merchants or short-term accommodation hosts will undergo a verification process to ensure that their business permits are valid and registered before they can operate on online travel agent platforms," Widiyanti said at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

"This work plan is targeted to run for 12 months until the system can operate optimally and sustainably," she continued.

From verification steps to the businesses, Widiyanti said online travel agents have started displaying Business Identification Number (NIB) on their listings. Thereby, she expected transparency and consumer trust could be increased.

“Based on OSS data, the number of business units with registered NIBs... has increased by 46.5% since March 31, 2025, when these efforts were first implemented, up to today,” she said.

Widiyanti said that all business operators are required to obtain licenses that comply with the applicable provisions and business classifications, and to conduct their business activities legally. She hopes the effort will protect consumer rights and satisfaction, create healthy governance in the tourism business, and serve as a model of good practice for other sectors.

“Our goal is clear: to create a tourism industry ecosystem that is fair, competitive, and sustainable,” she said.
