RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Current global geopolitical tensions are having a direct impact on Indonesia’s aviation industry. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, made the statement at the Patriot Move 2026 event at HI Roundabout, Jakarta, Sunday, May 17, 2026.
According to him, the impact of this geopolitical situation is undeniable. Agus added that this situation forces many countries to adapt.
“Because the world is still under the pressure of war and geopolitical tensions that affect the energy market and global energy prices. And this, of course, has far-reaching effects, including on the transportation sector—including aviation. Therefore, countries around the world, including Indonesia, must take steps that are not easy, but necessary adjustments,” Agus said.
In response to these conditions, Agus stated that adjustments to the upper limit of flight ticket fares will be made carefully and in a controlled manner to make sure it doesn't weigh down the public. He added that discussions regarding this policy are still ongoing with the Ministry of Transportation and the airlines operating in Indonesia.
He said, “I’ll have a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation, which oversees these regulations as a whole, as well as with the airlines that operate in Indonesia.”
Previously, the Ministry of Transportation had already permitted domestic airlines to impose a fuel surcharge of up to 50 percent of the upper fare limit in response to fluctuations in global jet fuel prices.
The government has issued the Minister of Transportation Decree No. KM 1041 of 2026 regarding the Amount of the Surcharge due to Fuel Price Fluctuations for Economy Class Passenger Fares on Scheduled Domestic Commercial Air Transport. This policy was implemented in response to rising aviation fuel prices, as well as to ensure the sustainability of the national aviation industry while maintaining consumer protection and the affordability of airfares.
