RRI.CO.ID, Banjar - Tucked away in the lush interior of Paau Village within the Riam Kanan Reservoir zone, Aranio Subdistrict, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, Mandin Panyaluhan Waterfall has emerged as a premier nature sanctuary.

Drawing both local residents and out-of-town travelers, this hidden ecological gem offers a refreshing mountain climate and untouched wilderness, positioning it as an ideal retreat for urbanites looking to escape the friction of city life.

The journey to the waterfall is an adventure in itself. To reach the site, travelers must charter local boats across the expansive Riam Kanan Reservoir, an area defined by its tranquil, glass-like waters and rolling green hills.

This scenic river transit provides a serene introduction to South Kalimantan's raw topography. Upon arrival at the village trail and reaching the falls, visitors are immediately greeted by the thunderous roar of mountain water cascading down a sheer rock face. The crisp, crystal-clear stream cuts through a dense canopy of ancient trees, creating a cool, mist-kissed microclimate.

The sheer purity of the environment is what leaves the deepest impression on visitors. Many choose to swim in the natural plunge pools, document the landscape, or simply unwind in the clean mountain air.

Nabila, a hiker from the provincial capital of Banjarmasin, expressed her awe during her first excursion to the site. “This is my first time here, the scenery is incredibly beautiful and natural. The journey to the waterfall is challenging and fun, this place is perfect for nature lovers,” Nabila shared on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

For other travelers, the absolute absence of urban noise pollution is the main draw. Sheryn, another visitor, emphasized the restorative qualities of the secluded river system.

“The water is crystal clear, clean, and the atmosphere is still pristine. I feel so comfortable here because the beautiful natural setting brings peace of mind, especially being far from city noise. I hope this tourist spot stays clean,” Sheryn remarked.

Beyond its value as an eco-tourism sanctuary, Mandin Panyaluhan Waterfall is proving to be an economic lifeline for the indigenous community of Paau Village. The steady influx of weekend travelers has prompted local residents to diversify into the tourism service sector.

Villagers have successfully established sustainable micro-enterprises, operating boat transport charters across the reservoir, opening traditional food stalls (warung), and offering essential outdoor gear rentals. This grassroots tourism ecosystem has effectively boosted household incomes and injected fresh economic growth into the rural Riam Kanan Reservoir region, proving that environmental preservation can directly foster community prosperity.
