RRI.CO.ID, Tanah Datar – The Ministry of Tourism has identified Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra as a strategic pillar of Indonesia's cultural tourism, citing its immense potential to attract international travelers.
This assessment was shared by the Ministry’s Assistant Deputy for International Tourism Marketing II, Yulia, during an audience with Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra, at the Indo Jolito Building in Batusangkar on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. According to Yulia, the region’s rich customs, deep-seated traditions, and iconic landmarks, most notably the Istano Basa Pagaruyung, serve as a unique magnet for global tourists.
The discussion focused on several key strategies to bolster the region's profile, including destination branding, digital promotion on international platforms, participation in global travel expos, and the development of integrated tour packages.
Beyond marketing, the Ministry emphasized the importance of regional readiness, covering service quality, cleanliness, accessibility, and the empowerment of local creative economies.
"It is essential to recognize that digitalization is advancing rapidly. This must be leveraged for tourism promotion in Tanah Datar. This support is further strengthened by inviting travel agents and organizing fam-trips (familiarization trips) to allow them to experience this extraordinary tourism firsthand," said Yulia, as quoted by infopublik.id.
Regent Eka Putra expressed his appreciation for the Ministry’s visit, viewing it as a vital endorsement from the central government for Tanah Datar’s local tourism development. "Tanah Datar possesses authentic Minangkabau cultural wealth, historical heritage, and breathtaking natural landscapes. This is our primary asset that must continue to be promoted more extensively," remarked the Regent.
He expressed hope that the meeting would solidify the partnership between the Tanah Datar Regency Administration and the Ministry of Tourism to drive the sector forward.
"Tourism is a strategic sector that not only introduces our local culture to the international stage but also significantly boosts economic growth and community welfare," he concluded. ***
