RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Vice Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, assessed that the 2026 Deep and Extreme Indonesia (DXI) exhibition is a crucial opportunity to strengthen Indonesia's position as a world-class adventure tourism destination, amid the growing trend of nature-based tourism.

"Congratulations to Deep Extreme Indonesia for hosting this exhibition for the 18th time. This is one of our steps to further expand our network and strengthen Indonesia's position as a global adventure tourism destination," said Wamenpar Ni Luh Puspa in her remarks at the opening of DXI 2026 at the JICC Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, April 23, 2026.

This annual exhibition is also one of the largest events in Indonesia, highlighting adventure sports, outdoor activities, and diving. Data from the Ministry of Tourism shows that 75 percent of tourists visiting Indonesia consider nature tourism their primary attraction.

Of that number, around 65 percent choose coastal and marine tourism as their primary activity. Marine tourism's contribution is significant, accounting for approximately 32 to 42 percent of total national tourism economic activity, or equivalent to 1.5 to 2 percent of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This development is inseparable from changes in tourist behavior following the COVID-19 pandemic, which increasingly prioritizes meaningful experiences. Tourists now seek more personal, immersive experiences that connect directly with nature, culture, and local communities. This trend has driven increased interest in special interest tourism such as diving, surfing, sailing, trekking, and various other adventure activities.

To support the growth of outdoor tourism, the Ministry of Tourism prioritizes safety and security. Since 2025, tourism safety has been a flagship program, strengthened through training and certification for tour guides and players in the nature-based tourism industry.

This effort is expected to increase tourist confidence and help achieve the target of 16 to 17 million international tourist visits by 2026. Last year, Indonesia recorded 15.4 million tourist visits.

DXI 2026 will be held from April 23–26, 2026, in Hall B of the Jakarta International Tourism Conference (JICC), under the theme #DAREtoXPLORE: Waves of Collaboration. This theme encourages all stakeholders to collaborate in developing the adventure tourism industry while exploring Indonesia's natural wealth.

According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Thursday April 23, 2026, in Jakarta, the exhibition showcases a comprehensive industry ecosystem, from diving equipment and marine tourism, overland adventures, mountaineering, to adventure communities and outdoor lifestyles. Throughout the four-day event, DXI 2026 will also feature various interactive programs such as Diving and Underwater Experiences, Adventure and Outdoor Activities, Workshops and Sharing Sessions, and Family Kids Activities.

In addition, various competitions also enlivened the event, including the Underwater Mermaid Competition, Underwater Photo Competition, Underwater Dance Competition, Underwater Modeling Competition, and Adventure Shootout Competition. The Ministry of Tourism also actively participated by displaying a 54-square-meter Wonderful Indonesia booth showcasing various national tourism industry players.

Meanwhile, the opening of DXI 2026 was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono. "I am committed to supporting the tourism sector, including marine tourism, with infrastructure readiness and inter-regional connectivity," Agus said.

He stated that many of Indonesia's leading destinations possess great potential but still face accessibility challenges. Therefore, synergy between the central government, regional governments, businesses, and communities is key to providing adequate infrastructure and facilities.
