RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning women as central pillars of its operational transformation, marking Kartini Day with a widespread showcase of female expertise across its diverse recreation units.
The Jakarta-owned enterprise (BUMD) aims to highlight how gender equality and professional collaboration are reshaping the landscape of modern, inclusive tourism in the capital. Kartni Day is observed on April 21 to commemorate R.A. Kartini from Jepara, Central Java, who dedicated her life for the women's equality during the colonial era.
The initiative moves beyond symbolic gestures, placing women in high-stakes roles typically associated with rigorous physical training and technical skill. From safety management to marine biology, the move reflects a strategic shift toward a more empathetic and innovative service model.
“With the spirit of collaboration and equality, women are not only part of Ancol's journey, but also a force that determines the direction of the future of Indonesian tourism” said Corporate Communication of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, Daniel Windriatmoko, in a statement on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The celebration saw a complete takeover of operational roles by female staff across Ancol’s major attractions. At Dunia Fantasi (Dufan), all ride operators were women, tasked with ensuring professional safety standards and visitor satisfaction.
Meanwhile, at Sea World Ancol, female divers took to the giant aquarium, demonstrating the technical resilience required for underwater maintenance and performance.
The focus on female expertise extended to Samudra Ancol, where female handlers led educational marine mammal presentations, and to Jakarta Bird Land, where specialists combined professional animal care with public interaction. At Atlantis Water Adventure, female lifeguards were stationed across all water attractions, having undergone intensive training to manage visitor safety.
Windriatmoko emphasized that the inclusion of women in these strategic roles brings a unique perspective that enhances the overall tourist experience, making it more sustainable and competitive. “Women present a perspective that enriches the tourism experience,” he noted.
To encourage public participation in the celebration, the management introduced a special promotional "Kartini Ticket." For IDR 121,000 (USD 7), female visitors can gain access to all of Ancol’s recreation units. Online ticket sales are available from April 21 to April 26, 2026, with offline purchases exclusive to the final day of the promotion. ***
