RRI.CO.ID, Malang - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Center has announced the temporary closure of the Mount Bromo tourist area from April 6 to April 12, 2026, to allow for essential ecosystem recovery and to upgrade the quality of tourism services following a record-breaking surge in visitors during the recent Lebaran holiday period.

The closure officially began at 06:00 WIB on Monday, April 6, and is scheduled to conclude at 10.00 locla time on Sunday, April 12.

“It is true, Bromo is closed for the next week we are preparing various steps as momentum for ecosystem recovery, while simultaneously improving the quality of tourism services,” said Public Relations Officer for the TNBTS Center, Endrip Wahyutama, in Malang on Monday, March 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The decision comes after a significant influx of travelers stretched the park's capacity. During the peak Lebaran holiday window from March 21–24, 2026, the mountain saw 24,671 visitors. Accumulative data for March 2026 shows a total of 79,223 tourists, a sharp increase compared to January (65,891) and February (45,738).

Rather than remaining idle during the closure, the TNBTS Center has scheduled a rigorous series of activities to ensure the long-term sustainability of the park. This effort begins with an ecosystem cleanup, where dedicated teams will perform large-scale waste removal across the caldera to address the impact of the high-traffic holiday month.

To ensure service standardization, the park will hold training sessions from April 7–9 for jeep and horse transportation providers in Probolinggo and Malang, focusing on improving both safety and service quality.

Additionally, officials will move forward with the Tengger Caldera Ring Road (JLKT) project, starting with a socialization phase on April 6, which will be followed by a formal groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for April 13, 2026.

The TNBTS Center hopes these measures will balance the preservation of the unique volcanic landscape with the economic needs of the surrounding communities in Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Lumajang, and Malang.

"So that in the future Bromo remains sustainable and provides lasting benefits for everyone," Endrip concluded. ***
