RRI.CO.ID, Temanggung - The majestic Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, is preparing for a significant influx of travelers, with management projecting a 5 percent increase in visitors for the upcoming 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday compared to the previous year. This optimistic outlook comes as the site continues to enhance its appeal through upgraded facilities and a general rise in regional tourism interest.
Management has set an ambitious target of 83,000 visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage site over the nine-day holiday period. Director of Operations for Borobudur Tourism Park, Supriadi Jufri, noted on Friday, March 13, 2026, that the expected growth is a direct result of improved supporting infrastructure and a growing public appetite for travel.
To manage the anticipated crowds, authorities have implemented strategic measures, particularly regarding logistics and vehicle management. The Kujon parking area remains the primary solution for the expected vehicle surge, with officials confident that current spatial planning will prevent congestion.
"It is estimated to still be sufficient to accommodate parking needs during the holiday period. Nevertheless, management continues to monitor field conditions to ensure parking capacity remains adequate should there be a further increase in the number of visitors." said Supriadi Jufri, as quoted by Antara.
Through these proactive preparations, the management aims to ensure a seamless experience for tourists during one of Indonesia’s busiest travel seasons. Simultaneously, they seek to maximize the economic benefits for the surrounding local communities. ***
