RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has achieved a significant milestone in its global tourism strategy following a highly successful showing at the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin 2026. The country is now projecting a staggering IDR 16.89 trillion (USD 1.06 billion) in potential foreign exchange earnings.

Under the strategic banner of the "#GoBeyondOrdinary" campaign, the Indonesia Tourism Ministry focused on high-value experiences to draw hundreds of thousands of prospective international travelers.

Confirming the results in a press statement in Jakarta on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Indonesian Tourism Minister, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, emphasized that the campaign was designed to shift the focus toward value-driven tourism. As reported by Antara, the Minister remarked that #GoBeyondOrdinary emphasizes creating added value through inclusivity, sustainability, and quality travel experiences.

This approach proved effective at the Indonesia Pavilion in Berlin, which hosted key meetings between March 3 and 5. The event attracted 93 industry players from 11 provinces, ranging from luxury accommodation providers to local culinary Small, Medium, Enterprises (SMEs) and village-based tourism operators.

The interest in Indonesian destinations was overwhelmingly led by European buyers, who accounted for 88.38 percent of the meetings, followed by significant interest from Asia, the Americas, and Australia. The Ministry reported that the three-day exhibition alone generated potential transactions from 479,434 prospective tourists, estimated to be worth IDR 14.91 trillion (USD 935.15 million).

The success in Berlin was further bolstered by an extensive pre-exhibition sales mission conducted in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, and Stuttgart from February 23 to 26. This preliminary outreach successfully engaged an additional 63,519 potential visitors, contributing another IDR 1.98 trillion (USD 124.22 million) to the total projected revenue.

The Minister conveyed that the achievements at the ITB Berlin 2026 event reflect the high level of international market interest in Indonesian tourism products.

Indonesia’s diplomatic and promotional efforts are continuing through a post-exhibition roadshow across Warsaw, Budapest, Zagreb, and Milan from March 9 to 16, 2026. This mission is being carried out in collaboration with the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) and local Indonesian Embassies.

During her working visit to Germany, Minister Widiyanti also strengthened international ties through bilateral meetings with UN Tourism Secretary General, Shaikha Al Nowais, and India’s Minister of Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

The visit was highlighted by Indonesia receiving the prestigious "Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Destination" from TripAdvisor, further cementing the archipelago's status as a premier global destination. ***
