RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar - The Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has announced the temporary closure of four Nature Tourism Parks (TWA) to mark the Hindu Day of Silence, or Nyepi, which commemorates the Saka New Year 1948.

The closure will take place from March 18 to March 20, 2026, at Lake Buyan–Lake Tamblingan in Buleleng, Panelokan and Mount Batur Bukit Payang in Bangli, and the Sangeh TWA in Badung.

The policy, issued under an official announcement by the Head of Bali BKSDA, restricts public access for tourism, research, and educational activities during the holiday period.

Bali BKSDA Head Ratna Hendratmoko confirmed the timeline for the reopening of these sites. “The areas will be reopened on Saturday, March 21, at 9 a.m. local time,” she said in Denpasar on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

She explained that the closure is intended to honor the Catur Brata Penyepian, the four sacred prohibitions observed during Nyepi: no fire or light, no work, no travel, and no entertainment.

Ratna added that Nyepi also provides an opportunity for nature to rest briefly from tourism activities, allowing ecosystems within conservation areas to recover and maintain sustainability.

Authorities have called for cooperation and understanding from both residents and international visitors to respect the sanctity of the ritual and support the preservation of Bali’s natural heritage. ***
