RRI.CO.ID, Bali - Bali has once again achieved international recognition by winning the "Best Island" award at the 2026 DestinAsian Readers' Choice Awards.

This award confirms Bali's continued position as a leading and top-of-mind destination for global travelers, particularly in the Asia Pacific region.

In the award, Bali outperformed a number of popular global destinations, including Boracay (Philippines), Flores & Komodo Island (Indonesia), Langkawi (Malaysia), Lombok (Indonesia), Maldives (Maldives), Palawan (Philippines), Phu Quoc (Vietnam), Phuket (Thailand), and Koh Samui (Thailand).

Vice Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, expressed her appreciation for the award when receiving it at an event held at St. Regis, Nusa Dua, Bali, Thursday, 5 March 2026.

According to her, this achievement is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Tourism, but rather the result of the collaborative efforts of all tourism industry players, local governments, and the community, who continue to strive to promote and maintain the quality of Indonesian tourism services.

The DestinAsian Readers' Choice Awards is an annual award presented by the travel magazine DestinAsian Magazine, recognizing the best tourism industry players in the Asia Pacific region.

Winners are determined based on the travel experiences of the magazine's readers, who are active travelers and international travel industry players.

Behind these achievements, the government is also focusing on a number of challenges that need to be addressed collectively, one of which is waste management at tourist destinations.

President Prabowo Subianto has introduced the ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) movement, which emphasizes the importance of systematic environmental management based on environmentally friendly technologies.

In line with these efforts, the Indonesian Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) will accelerate the development of a waste-to-energy project, or the processing of waste into electricity, with Denpasar City as one of the project's first phase locations.
