RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Mount Papandayan Nature Park has an altitude of about 2,665 meters above sea level. It is known as one of the most popular tourism mountains in West Java which is located in Garut Regency.

The area is frequently chosen by newbie hikers because of its relatively easy and accessible trails. In addition, Mount Papandayan is considered suitable for family tourism, including visits with children aged at least three years, as long as they remain on the designated tourist routes determined by the management.

According to information from the infogarut.id website in 2026, the entrance fee for domestic visitors is IDR 20,000 on weekdays and IDR 30,000 on weekends. Meanwhile, foreign visitors are charged IDR 200,000 on weekdays and IDR 300,000 on weekends.

During the hike, several spots are popular locations for hikers to capture memorable moments. One of them is the active crater area, which still releases steam and sulphur gas.

In addition, the Dead Forest area also attracts visitors because it features a landscape of dry trees that creates a unique and exotic atmosphere. Another main destination is Padang Edelweiss Tegal Alun, which is known as one of the highest points and as a vast field of edelweiss flowers that serves as a special attraction for tourists.

The natural attractions of Mount Papandayan make it a leading destination, especially during long holiday periods. Data from the Garut Regency Government showed that the number of visitors in December 2025 reached 24,884 people.

RRI VOI directly visited and hiked Mount Papandayan several times ago. The destination is considered an enjoyable nature tourism site.

Compared to previous visits, the condition of the mountain area has significantly improved, with more adequate facilities such as restrooms in the camping area and food stalls. The number of visitors has also increased, including both domestic and international tourists.

During the dry season, Mount Papandayan is very comfortable to visit. Nevertheless, hikers are advised to prepare their equipment carefully, such as bringing thick jackets and sleeping bags to ensure a comfortable rest. This is important because nighttime temperatures tend to be colder during the dry season.
