RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s tourism industry closed 2025 on a high note, recording achievements that exceeded government targets and underscoring its growing role in the national economy. 

Indonesian Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana expressed pride and gratitude for the sector’s performance, noting that the results went beyond the benchmarks set in the Government Work Plan (RKP).

Speaking at a working meeting with Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, Minister Widiyanti cited the latest figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) on February 2. 

The updated data reinforced earlier reports presented by the Ministry of Tourism in previous sessions. “This achievement reflects the strong collaboration among all stakeholders in the tourism sector,” she said, as quoted on the official website of the Indonesian Tourism Ministry.

According to BPS, international tourist arrivals in 2025 reached 15.39 million, surpassing the government’s target of 14-15 million. The figure represents a 10.8 percent increase compared to 2024.

“With actual arrivals at 15.39 million, this outcome not only exceeds the target but also outperforms our earlier projections,” MInister Widiyanti explained.

Of the total arrivals, 71 percent came from designated target countries, with Malaysia contributing the largest share. The United Arab Emirates recorded the highest growth among target markets, overtaking Russia’s previous position.

Spending by foreign tourists also rose, with the average expenditure per arrival (ASPA) reaching USD 1,267, above the target of USD 1,220. Tourism foreign exchange earnings were projected at USD 18.91 billion (IDR 317.40 trillion), marking a 13.17 percent increase from 2024.

The gap between international arrivals and domestic tourist trips widened to 6.22 million in 2025, compared to 4.94 million in 2024. “Although not a primary performance indicator, we monitor this gap as it serves as an important signal of foreign exchange surplus,” Minister Widiyanti said.

Domestic tourism also showed robust growth, with 1.20 billion trips recorded in 2025, an increase of 17.55 percent.

Investment in the tourism sector followed the same upward trend. While earlier reports noted investment of IDR 53.92 trillion for the first three quarters of 2025, full-year figures reached IDR 73.55 trillion, representing a 56.05 percent increase compared to 2024.

“These achievements clearly demonstrate that tourism plays a strategic role in driving national economic growth and delivering tangible benefits to communities,” the minister said.

She emphasized that the strong performance will serve as motivation for the Ministry of Tourism to continue strengthening collaboration with stakeholders and to design strategies and programs aligned with public needs.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa and senior officials from the ministry. ***
