KBRN, Jakarta: Ragunan Zoo will begin nighttime operations this weekend, offering a new experience for Jakarta residents who wish to explore the zoo after dark.

Starting Saturday, October 11, 2025, the zoo will remain open until 10 p.m. Jakarta time every weekend under its new program, Night at Ragunan Zoo.

“We’ve conducted simulations and a comprehensive study on the technical aspects of nighttime operations at Ragunan Zoo,” said M. Fajar Sauri, Head of the Jakarta Provincial Parks and Urban Forestry Agency, in Jakarta on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Visitors interested in observing nocturnal animals can explore several designated enclosures, including areas for small mammals, tigers, terrarium species, and hippopotamuses. An electric car rental service is available for IDR 250,000 per hour, accommodating up to five passengers.

According to Wahyudi Bambang, Head of Public Relations for Ragunan Zoo, the program was initiated by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who aims to make Ragunan a lively recreational destination even at night. “It’s a permanent program,” Wahyudi confirmed.

He added that the initiative is expected to create a calm and enchanting nighttime atmosphere beneath Ragunan’s canopy of trees. Visitors can enjoy not only sightseeing but also two curated activity packages offered by the zoo’s management.

The first package, Night Workout at Ragunan Zoo, is a nighttime exercise program covering a distance of approximately 1.8 kilometers.

“Surrounded by nature, fresh air, and the sounds of nocturnal animals, visitors are encouraged to stay active through various workout activities along the designated route,” Wahyudi explained.

He noted that the program is ideal for families, communities, and individuals seeking a fresh way to experience Jakarta’s nightlife. “This activity is perfect for those who want to see the city from a different perspective after dark,” he said.

The second package, Educational Exploration at Ragunan Zoo Night, allows visitors to tour the zoo in a buggy car and observe the behavior of nocturnal animals that are typically hidden during the day.

“Exploration requires a safe and comfortable buggy car, with a fare of IDR 250,000 (approximately USD 15.80) per hour for up to five people,” Wahyudi said.
