KBRN, Pekanbaru: The annual Pacu Jalur Traditional Festival, a signature cultural event in Kuantan Singingi Regency, has been officially included in the 2025 National Calendar of Events (KEN) curated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

The festival, which showcases traditional boat races, is scheduled to take place this August and is among 110 featured events from across Indonesia.

Riau Provincial Legislative Councilor Zulhendri of Inhu–Kuansing electoral district noted that growing public enthusiasm is reflected in the rising number of participants. This year, more than 200 teams are expected to compete, fueled by the emergence of newly built boats that began construction last year.

“Last year saw the start of many new boats being built. This year’s event will be even livelier, possibly over 200 participants. With such a large turnout, we hope the event area will be better organized so Pacu Jalur can truly become a national icon,” Zulhendri said on Friday, June 20, 2025.

He also predicted a surge in visitor numbers for the 2025 edition, driven by the expanded participation. According to him, this momentum presents a valuable opportunity to elevate Pacu Jalur as a nationally recognized cultural tourism destination.

Zulhendri emphasized the importance of improved site management and called for stronger support from both provincial administration and central government.

Beyond preserving tradition, the 2025 Pacu Jalur Tradisional Festival is seen as a platform to showcase the cultural and economic potential of Kuantan Singingi on a broader stage. ***
